The Project

This is a weird project of musical collaboration between Brandon MacInnis (Nup*) and Jesse Reklaw (Rex*). The basic idea is that we composed and recorded fifty-two one-minute songs during one year. Here's the actual rules, for the curious: http://www.slowwave.com/superstring52/rules.txt **

The simple explanation is: each week, each person either started or finished one song, depending on a pair of drawn cards. (Since there's 52 cards in a deck, and 52 weeks in a year, it made sense—to us—to link each song to a card.)

We came up with this idea around New Year's 2007, and actually finished in time at the end of 2007. Exhausted from the project, we shelved it for almost all of 2008, then in the eleventh hour mixed and mastered the entire album. We plan to release one song per week in 2009, while we work on our next project. In the spirit of card-playing randomness, we shuffled a new deck and are releasing the songs based on a weekly draw. So it'll be sort of a surprise for us too.
